OPA-LOCKA, Florida. – Authorities arrested an Opa-locka man Monday after they say he threw a rock at a marked police car.

According to an arrest report, an Opa-locka police sergeant was parked at the Murphy USA gas station at 13730 NW 27th Ave. at about 10:45 a.m., checking reports, when he was startled when Jayron Perez Cabrera threw the four- to five-inch rock at the car.

Witnesses pointed to Perez Cabrera, 27, as he walked south, and another officer was able to arrest him, police said.

The report said video footage “clearly” showed Perez Cabrera throwing the rock.

“The rock was thrown with such force that the handle of the police vehicle broke off and a large dent was created in the metal frame,” it said.

Perez Cabrera now faces charges of shooting or throwing a deadly projectile and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Jail records show a Miami-Dade judge set his bail at $7,500. Perez Cabrera remained in custody Tuesday at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
